The Gurdwara commemorates a remarkable episode from Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s second Udasi, during which he traveled through Rajasthan into Gujarat around the early 16th century
Local lore shares that upon reaching the Narmada River bank, a Maharaja or Nawab forbade a boat crossing at night. A waterman (malah) refused to ferry them. Guru Nanak then asked Bhai Mardana Ji to spread his chadar (blanket) on the water. Miraculously, it floated, and both crossed the river seated upon it. Witnessing this, the ruler repented and embraced the Guru’s teachings
